AT A GLANCE
A little context.
A world of possibility.
Separate national park entry, TIMS and restricted-area permits before comparing trek proposals.
Three requirements that are often confused
A Nepal trek may involve protected-area entry, a Trekking Information Management System card and, for controlled areas, a separate trekking permit. These are different arrangements administered through different processes. The exact combination depends on the route, not simply the marketing name of the trek.
Write the start, overnight places, passes and finish before asking what is required. A provider should be able to connect every stated requirement to the exact itinerary and an official source.
Use the current TIMS route list
Nepal Tourism Board publishes routes covered by its current guide and agency-issued TIMS provisions, including listed journeys in Everest, Langtang, Annapurna, Manaslu and other regions. Treat that page as a live reference rather than copying its details permanently into a quotation.
Ask which registered agency will arrange the card and licensed guide where required. Keep the answer with the dated trip proposal.
Restricted areas need a separate check
The Department of Immigration controls permits for restricted trekking areas. An itinerary that enters one of these areas can require an agency-led process and supporting documents. Rules, fees and minimum arrangements can change by area and season.
Do not assume a conservation-area ticket or TIMS card replaces a restricted-area permit. Verify the route against the Department's current information before payment.
Questions for a provider
Ask for the name of each permit or entry document, who obtains it, what information is needed, whether the quoted amount includes it and when it becomes non-refundable. Confirm what the traveller must carry on the trail.
Never send sensitive identity documents to an unverified contact. Use the provider's established secure process and understand its privacy handling before sharing passport data.
